God’s Word for Me Today

God’s Word for (to) me today (a few notes taken in 1986)

Proverbs 24:6
“There is victory in abundance of counselors.”  I need to always be open to more counselors, advice from others.  Oh God send more, raise up more men and women who are concerned for victory!  To reach this world for Christ and not be satisfied with living a life of peace.  There is a lot of peace without victory!  May my main counselor be the Spirit of God.

Proverbs 24:27
Victory will only come if we follow the Lord’s instructions to take care of His work first “the work outside” then care for our home.  Too often it’s “me first” then the things of God.

— It is assuring to know that even if there is a limit to spiritual counselors that the Lord “has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline (a sound mind)”! (2 Timothy 1:7)

Proverbs 25:26
“Like a trampled spring and a polluted well is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.”  Weary, lost, dyeing souls come to springs and wells for life saving and refreshing water only to find them trampled and polluted.  A picture of a righteous man who is called of God to give life and refreshment to the world’s lost but has given way to the wicked – to wickedness.  Have I allowed my life to become a polluted well by giving way to the wicked?  By allowing the wicked to run Manila, Calutta, Bogota, Lima, San Paulo, Mexico City, etc.?  My life should be like a bubbly spring, like a well of living water to bring life and hope to the masses through the gospel of the Lord Jesus.

Proverbs 27:106
“Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother far away.”  Some of us missionaries have the biggest problem here.  There Lord has asked us to leave our families, to go to the ends of the earth with the gospel – but we still hold on!  A near neighbor is better than even a family member far away.  The Lord never leaves us comfortless.  Some of us need to “unpack” our bags and begin to live where we are!

Mexico City – Read Haggai 1 & 2
“Consider your ways” (1:5)  Why?  Because lots of activity, work, everyday normal things but no result, no fruit – no satisfaction (1:6).  Why?  Because God’s house is in ruin while my home and business is taken care of! (1:9)  God’s will and worship and work comes first – it must come first then whatever I do will be fruitful!  Haggai 2:4,5 – “…take courage…and work; for I am with you says the Lord of hosts…My Spirit is abiding in your midst: do not fear!”

Bogota, Columbia
Habakkuk 2:4 – “Behold the proud one, his soul is not right within him; but the righteous will live by his faith.”  Pride and faith are opposite.  Pride is self or faith in God!  And without faith it is impossible to please God.  All must be centered in God!

2:00AM in Bogota
Spent 9:30PM to 1:30AM on the street with Street Children Team of YWAM, Steve Bartel and one other.  Spent most of the time with four boys, ages 9-13, and one 11 year old girl, Lucia.  We spent two hours looking for Lucia’s mother and did so.  Really an answer to prayer.  Lots of kids on the street but not as many as Manila, but oh what a need.  “Help us O Lord as we trust you to lead us as a team into the harvest field.”
